Collection of fears in Montreal- April & May 2009
Actions in Calgary May 4-20
Collection of Fears in Calgary -May & June
Actions in Montreal June & July

On nice days, Lalie Douglas can be found in the neighborhood around articule gallery working on the second phase of her /Take Your Fears Away/ project. For this project the artist collected people's fears, and brought them to another city to carry out a series of performances/interventions designed to lessen the power those fears held.

She returned to Montreal at the beginning of June and since then has been carrying out similar interventions in the neighborhood. These have taken the form of three related performances/interventions in the public space.

/Taking on the fears of others/: is a series of unannounced performances in which she asks passer's by to take on or adopt the fear of another as their own by giving voice to one of the fears brought back from Calgary.
/Taking on the fears of others 2 (Brass Fears): /Douglas has been making small brass embossings based on the collected fears and nailing them to hydro poles in the neighborhood. When you pass them, do you share in the fear of another?

/Courage/ Security: /To help people in the neighborhood either face their fears or find shelter from them Douglas had coin-like tokens minted and has been surreptitiously trying to get as many as possible into circulation in the area.

Montreal artist Lalie Douglas creates impromptu in-situ performance and installation projects outside of traditional gallery spaces. Douglas has shown in group and solo exhibitions in Canada and internationally, and has received research and creation grants from the Conseil des arts et des letters du Québec and the Canada Council. http://www.laliedouglas.com/
